LGBTQ people by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 89 LGBTQ, short for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning people are individuals who identify as non-heterosexuals or gender minorities. They may also use additional labels such as pansexual or asexual to describe their sexual orientation. The term LGBTQ is used to refer to all members of the LGBT community in one inclusive phrase that reflects the diversity of identities within it. History The concept of homosexuality has been documented since ancient times; however, same-sex relationships have not always been accepted by society at large due to religious and cultural beliefs about sexuality. In modern history there have been significant advances in acceptance towards those with alternative sexual orientations and gender identity expressions but discrimination still exists today in many parts of the world. One example being India’s recent repealment (in 2018) of Section 377 which was an archaic law criminalizing consensual homosexual acts between adults . Culture & Community As tolerance toward LGBTQ people increases around the world so does its visibility through popular culture either through media representation or recognition from celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres coming out publicly as lesbian on her TV show “Ellen” back 1997 sparking conversations about different kinds of love stories not often seen before then resulting huge strides forward for queer rights movements globally followed soon after by other countries repealing similar anti-gay laws . This increased awareness sparked more discussion leading up what we know today as Pride Month celebrated each year June celebrate progress made while recognizing work needs done when fighting against homophobia biphobia transphobia etcetera.. Communities throughout US Europe Asia Africa Australia Latin America come together during this time share experiences emotions hopes dreams create strong connections among allies advocates alike despite national boundaries language barriers differences religion political views etc.. All these events help bring positive change attitudes allow greater expression freedom without fear judgement violence oppression creating safe spaces where everyone can be themselves find support understanding they need journey whatever path life takes them down ultimately feel proud belong vibrant welcoming loving communities both offline online! Legal Protections With growing public sentiment favor better legal protection measures needed protect members community governments began enacting laws safeguards included employment housing healthcare access marriage adoption immigration policies aimed reducing bias based discrimination providing equal opportunities regardless someone’s sex gender orientation identity expression most recently 2020 Supreme Court ruling affirming workplace protections under Title VII Civil Rights Act 1964 set landmark precedent further advancing civil liberties stateside beyond .. Despite progress much remains left accomplish instance legislation protecting transgender youth banning conversion therapy practices remain debated even some cases disallowed pass state legislatures… It’s clear battle ensure full equality far from over activists continue working hard ensure provide secure future generations ahead come no matter whom how choose love express themselves freely openly joyfully!
