Kilauea

Kilauea, also known as the “world’s most active volcano”, is an active shield volcano located on the southern part of the island of Hawaii in United States. It has been continuously erupting since 1983 and is a major tourist attraction for visitors to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.
Kilauea stands at 4,091 feet (1247 m) above sea level and it covers around 14% of Hawaii Island’s total area with its 60 mile wide stretch from summit to sea. The shape of Kilauea looks like a warrior’s shield which gave rise to it being called “shield volcano” by geologists. As per US Geological Survey estimates, over 250 million cubic meters (8 billion cubic feet)of lava have come out from this raging giant since January 3rd 1983 when eruption started .

Kīlauea erupted explosively in 1790 resulting in death toll estimated between 80–200 people making it one deadliest volcanic eruptions ever recorded worldwide until then . Since its early days , Kīlauea had proved that its power could be destructive but now nature lovers flock near crater rim or even walk down into calderas created due to continuous activity over years . Its recent activity was observed during 2018-19 lower Puna eruption where about 820 acres land were covered under new lava flows and caused air quality issues across state . Despite all these activities , there are still areas such as Halemaumau Crater and River Of Fire river that remain untouched by any kind of catastrophe while tourists can observe live volcanic action up close taking help from approved tour operators only as safety first priority should always be maintained around volcanoes like Kilaeua which keeps reminding us how small we humans are compared to powers held by our mother nature !
