Katie Hobbs by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 90 Katie Hobbs (born October 25, 1967) is an American politician who has served as the Secretary of State of Arizona since 2019. She previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019 and was a minority leader for two years during her tenure. Early life and education Hobbs grew up in Tempe, Arizona and graduated from McClintock High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology at Northern Arizona University. After college, she worked as a social worker with Department of Economic Security working directly with low-income families dealing with abuse issues before taking on leadership roles such as Director for Housing & Community Development Division for DES. Political career Legislative career (2011–2019) In 2010 Katie ran unopposed to become Representative for Legislative District 24 which included parts of Phoenix and Scottsdale; this district had been represented by Republicans since 2000 until Katie took office in January 2011 becoming one of five Democrats representing Maricopa County that year..
