Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld (10 September 1933 – 19 February 2019) was a German fashion designer, artist and photographer. He was best known as the creative director of French luxury fashion house Chanel since 1983, where he created timeless designs for more than three decades. Born in Hamburg to wealthy family, Lagerfeld had an early interest in couture that eventually landed him his first job at Pierre Balmain after graduating from school. From there on he held prominent positions at Chloé and Fendi before taking up the mantle of Chanel’s Creative Director under Alain Wertheimer’s ownership in 1983.

Lagerfeld played an integral role in reviving the brand with modernized versions of its classic silhouettes such as tweed suits, quilted handbags and signature pearls which proved to be hugely popular among celebrities like Rihanna or Anna Wintour who often wore them during red carpet events worldwide.. In addition to his work with Chanel ,he collaborated with Italian powerhouse Fendi throughout much of his career launching numerous collections over half a century including their iconic “baguette bag” collection still adored by many today .He also founded two eponymous labels Karl lagerfield Paris and KARLxKaia each focusing on contemporary ready-to-wear apparel reflecting individualistic style meant for everyday wear while maintaining traditional elegance..

His personal style is well remembered – characterized by lavish black clothing accessorised with white collars ,dark glasses &a fan making it impossible not recognize one if seen walking down streets even today .His influence extended beyond fashion through photography exhibitions &personal projects exploring themes like surrealism&the future using digital technologies long before they became mainstream tools ..In 2005 , he launched The World According To Karl book featuring quotes from himself about topics ranging from art history to global warming alongside illustrations made by him .As a man whose life focused around creativity across different mediums,his legacy will continue inspiring generations ahead thus cementing his name amongst greatest designers ever lived
