Jay Robert Inslee (born February 9, 1951) is an American politician and environmentalist serving as the 23rd governor of Washington since 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the United States House of Representatives from 1993 to 1995 and from 1999 to 2012 representing Washington’s 1st congressional district. Born in Seattle, Inslee graduated from Ingraham High School before attending Willamette University College of Law. After practicing law for several years in Selah, a city near Yakima, he was elected to represent central Washington’s 4th District in Congress during a special election on November 3rd 1992.

Inslee began his political career with a focus on environmental issues such as air pollution control efforts and energy conservation initiatives which earned him recognition within national environmental circles.. In 1998 he co-authored the book Apollo’s Fire: Igniting America’s Clean Energy Economy with Bracken Hendricks published by Island Press that discussed renewable energy policy proposals for both state and federal governments . He ran two unsuccessful campaigns for Governor prior to finally winning office after 12 years out of congress due largely to increased support among progressive voters who were energized by Barack Obama’s successful presidential campaign four years earlier.
In 2017 Governor Inslee signed Executive Order 17-01 creating The Carbon Pollution Reduction Task Force , an advisory body charged with finding ways reduce carbon emissions across all sectors throughout the State through 2020 when its findings are scheduled be presented back  to legislature  for consideration into law making recommendations about how best implement those reductions without increasing economic hardship or negatively impacting jobs growth rate particularly rural communities already struggling economically because their economies have been reliant upon extraction industries like logging or mining activities now being phased out due climate change related regulations put place while ensuring compliance existing international agreements regarding greenhouse gas reduction targets set forth Paris Climate Accord 2015 agreement ratified U S Senate then President Obama December 2016 further strengthening commitments made former administration ..
