Hollywood

Hollywood is a district in the central region of Los Angeles, California. It is known across the world as being one of the major centers for film and television production. Hollywood has become synonymous with glamour, fame and success within show business circles and beyond.

The area was originally part of Spanish rancherland before it became an independent city in 1903; however it eventually merged into Los Angeles after annexation proceedings were completed just two years later. The first movie studio opened its doors in 1910 when D.W Griffith leased land to open his Biograph Company studios which served as home for many silent films throughout that decade until sound came onto screens by 1927 with ‘The Jazz Singer’ becoming the first ever ‘talking picture’. This marked a shift from New York City to Hollywood as America’s main center of entertainment production due to improved technology available at this time such as higher quality cameras, better post-production facilities and more spacious locations suitable for exterior filming – all factors which encouraged filmmakers making their way westward during what is now referred to as Old Hollywood or Classical Hollywood Period (1920s–1960s).

This period saw some significant changes not only technologically but also culturally – particularly around genres like horror, westerns and musical comedies – where new stars emerged such Marlene Dietrich , Clark Gable , Marilyn Monroe etc.. By 1930 most major US film companies had set up shop on various lots located along Sunset Boulevard including Paramount Pictures who still occupy these premises today .In addition to producing movies since then other media industries have developed here too such radio stations commercializing recorded music from 1935 onwards followed shortly afterwards by television networks opening offices between 1949–1950 following advances made possible through World War II leading development color TV .
