High school baseball by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 52 High school baseball is a sport played in the United States and Canada by boys in their sophomore, junior and senior years of high school. It is governed by National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) rules with some modifications to fit local conditions. It is also known as scholastic or interscholastic baseball; these terms are used interchangeably within NFHS rulebooks. In most states, baseball serves as part of the physical education curriculum throughout elementary and middle schools but largely takes place outside regular classes during high school due to its lengthier season—typically from March through June depending on location—and greater complexity than other sports offered at this level. High school teams typically play between 20–30 games per season including non-conference opponents such as private/parochial schools or out-of-state clubs that wish to challenge themselves against superior competition. The vast majority of varsity teams will participate in post-season tournaments sponsored by state governing bodies leading up to regional championships; winners may qualify for national tournaments like American Legion Baseball’s annual event held each August in Shelby, North Carolina since 1925. The popularity of high school baseball has been declining nationwide since 2000 due primarily over concerns about safety issues associated with long practices along with health risks posed by heat stress during summer months when temperatures can reach triple digits Fahrenheit (37+ Celsius). As a result, many states have shortened maximum practice times while others have adopted pitching limits that make it difficult for coaches who rely heavily upon elite pitchers without enough depth behind them—a common problem among smaller programs where roster sizes limit how much quality talent can be brought aboard each year despite growing interest from middle & elementary students looking towards playing more competitive ball once they get older . However , there still exists an incredible amount enthusiasm for youth & prep players alike across America making HS Baseball one game no fan should miss!
