He gained worldwide fame for his starring roles as Han Solo in the Star Wars films and as the title character of Indiana Jones movie franchise. Five of his movies are within the 30 top-grossing movies of all time at the US box office. Early life Ford was born on July 13, 1942 to Dorothy (née Dora Nidelman), a homemaker, and Christopher Ford (born John William Ford), an executive with TWA Airlines who later became a advertising salesman. His parents were both from Jewish families that had emigrated from Russia/Poland; they met while living in California when Harrison’s father was working with United States Army Air Forces Intelligence during World War II. In 1952, he moved together with his family to Westchester County, New York where he attended high school before going off to college at Ripon College Wisconsin but dropped out after one year due to lack of interest in studies despite doing well academically . It was during this period which he began acting professionally although it wasn’t until 1973 that he got real recognition for playing Bob Falfa in George Lucas’ American Graffiti .
