Georgia by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 81 Georgia is a country in the Caucasus region of Eurasia, located at the intersection of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. It has an area of 69,700 square kilometres and a population of around 3.7 million people. Georgia is bordered by Russia to the north-northwest, Azerbaijan to the east-northeast, Turkey to the south-southwest, Armenia and Iran to its West respectively; it shares maritime borders with Cyprus and Greece on Black Sea coastlines. The capital city Tbilisi has been referred to as “the Jerusalem of Caucasus.” The earliest evidence for human occupation dates back over 1 million years ago during Paleolithic era when Homo erectus inhabited Georgian territories from South Caspian steppes up until Northern Anatolia regions (present day Turkey). By 1500 BC proto Georgians had established numerous tribes which are today represented through various ethnic groups including Abkhazians (Abxaz), Svans (Svanuri) Ossetians (Iberiuli), Mingrels/Gurieli (Megruli) Adjaranis(Acharaeli) Lazs etc., all speaking languages belonging into Kartvelian language family group known as “South Caucasian” or “Kartvelian” languages. In 330 BC following death Alexander Great his vast empire was divided between Diadochi who waged wars against each other resulting eventually establishment 4th century AD independent Kingdom Of Iberia also known traditionally as Kartli or East Georgia under Parnavazid dynasty reign along with another kingdom Colchis in west part present day Imereti Region near Black sea coast line . In 522 AD Christianity became official religion due declaration King Miriana III , making Georgia one first nations convert Christian faith prior Roman Empire itself later declared state religion year 380AD . Throughout centuries since then there were many occupations by neighboring states like Persians , Arabs Mongols Turks Romans Byzantines Russians however thanks strong national identity deep rooted traditions mixed with religious commitment country managed remain largely intact culturally politically geographically even after most recent Russian annexation 1801 followed independence regained 1918 soon Soviet Union collapse 1991 whereupon new democratic Republic proclaimed 9 April same year establishing modern state founded upon principles law democracy respect human rights freedoms equality dignity rule laws separation powers judicial system free media elections parliament government structures etc.. Since gaining independence economic development mainly focuses tourism banking energy sector industrial developments while enjoying relatively good relations European Union NATO countries Middle East seeking further integration international organizations striving grow prosperous nation 21st Century world stage high regard western values standards living quality life citizens allowing future generations come continue maintain heritage timeless culture tradition history yet look forward bright prospects ahead creating sustainable environment progress well being entire population social level cultural diversity
