Gardening by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 68 Gardening is the practice of growing and cultivating plants as part of horticulture. In gardens, ornamental plants are often grown for their flowers, foliage, or overall appearance; useful plants such as root vegetables, leaf vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices are grown for consumption or to be used in other ways. Gardening can be considered both an art form — concerned with arranging plantings to create attractive scenes — and a science — involving knowledge of how different varieties respond to climate and soil conditions. A garden may also provide wildlife habitat that encourages biodiversity by providing food sources for animals like birds and insects. History The earliest evidence of gardening was found at archaeological sites in Jordan dating back 13-14 thousand years ago where archeologists discovered traces of wild wheat cultivation which led them to believe there must have been some kind of organized planting taking place on a small scale at least 10k years before agriculture became more widespread around 8k years ago during the Neolithic Revolution (around 12 kya). It’s believed that early humans would use basic tools such as sticks & rocks along with fire burning techniques/strategies such as slash-and burn farming methods from hunter gatherers societies turning over land into fertile soil suitable enough for successful crop production . This method helped level forests allowing sunlight through creating better air circulation improving water infiltration all while making it easier fot crops too germinate aiding in growth success rates giving rise too this new way off life now known today has Agriculture! As time went on people began trading seedlings between villages resulting in greater diversity within gardens across multiple regions helping spread botanical knowledge throughout what eventually turned out too become modern civilization we live inn today!
