Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara; 5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) was a British singer, songwriter and record producer, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. He is regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of popular music, with his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range. His on-stage charisma and powerful vocals earned him an international fan base that continues to this day.

Born in Zanzibar to Parsi parents from India who had been living there for several decades before moving to Middlesex, England shortly after his birth due to political turmoil caused by anti-colonialism movements throughout Africa during that period , he attended school at Ealing College where he became involved in numerous musical projects including Smile which eventually evolved into Queen when its other members Brian May and Roger Taylor joined forces with Mercury’s enthusiasm for writing songs .

As lead vocalist for Queen their first hit single “Killer Queen” established them within the mainstream pop culture while subsequent albums Sheer Heart Attack (1974), A Night At The Opera (1975) and News Of The World(1977) brought further success – culminating with their iconic performance at Live Aid concert held July 13th 1985 ; considered one of most memorable live performances ever seen . Following up on these successes they continued touring worldwide until Freddie’s death from bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS related complications in November 1991 aged 45 years old .

Throughout his solo career outside of queen ,Mercury released two studio albums Mr Bad Guy(1985 )and Barcelona(1988). In addition he wrote multiple soundtracks such as Flash Gordon theme song “Flash”which featured operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé ,as well many duets alongside artists like Michael Jackson & Elton John among others.. After being diagnosed HIV positive earlier same year mercury made public announcement regarding it just days prior passing away thus bringing more awareness about disease around world .

Over 25 years since passing away Freddie remains widely respected admired figure across globe having sold over 200 million records selling out stadiums wherever performed still holds Guinness world record title highest note sung by human voice till date .. Furthering legacy left behind statue located Kensington Gardens London unveiled 2018 commemorate life paving way so many generations follow suit be inspired become icons themselves much like him himself did once upon time …
