Frankfurt

Frankfurt am Main, commonly known as Frankfurt, is the largest city in the German state of Hesse and the fifth-largest city in Germany. Located on the River Main, it forms a continuous conurbation with neighbouring cities Offenbach am Main to its south and Wiesbaden to its west. Together they form an urban agglomeration called Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region which has a population of 5 million inhabitants.

The official name reflects its location at the heart of Europe; historically being one of two large financial centres (alongside London). It houses some major European institutions such as Deutsche Börse AG stock exchange and more recently ECB’s headquarters are located here too. The city is also home to many multinationals including Volkswagen Group, Siemens AG and Daimler AG amongst others – making it one of Europe’s strongest economic hubs for finance & technology start ups alike . Its skyline contains several skyscrapers like Commerzbank Tower or Messeturm among other iconic structures due largely to its history as a free imperial town within Holy Roman Empire during medieval times when this status allowed citizens greater freedom compared with their neighbours under feudal lordship thus creating favourable conditions for trade & commerce development over time.
