Dallas Mavericks by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 58 The Dallas Mavericks (often referred to as the Mavs) are an American professional basketball team based in Dallas, Texas. The Mavericks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Western Conference Southwest Division. They play their home games at American Airlines Center, which they share with fellow NBA franchise, the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League. The Mavericks have won three division titles and two conference championships since their inaugural 1980–81 season; however, despite having one of the most successful regular-season records over this period—which included 13 consecutive playoff appearances from 2001 to 2012—they never advanced past second round of playoffs until 2011 when they won their first championship by defeating Miami Heat 4–2 in Finals series led by Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry who were both named co-MVP’s for that finals victory. In 1982, Don Carter became owner of then failing franchise and changed its name from “Dallas Chaparrals” to “Dallas Mavericks”. He hired former coach Dick Motta who lead them through periods where teams had little success but was able maintain relevance due lack financial backing or talent on roster leading up till 1990s when Mark Cuban bought majority stake club prior 1999/00 season with goal making it into contender once again – something he managed do during following decade winning 11+ 40 win seasons 8 50 win campaigns including 67 wins historic 2006/07 campaign plus 3 division crowns 2 West Conf Titles capturing elusive 1st ever title 2011 beating LeBron James Dwyane Wade Chris Bosh powered Miami Heat 4–2 Finals earning him status among fans loyalists alike as man responsible turning fortunes around while also creating new era competitive excellence organization will remember long time come after reaching pinnacle sport under his leadership even though struggles ensued afterwards caused partly aging core personnel issues outside court all which culminated 2020 offseason massive rebuild process one look set bring back relevancy near future years go .
