Climate and environment by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 81 Climate and Environment is a field of study that examines the interactions between climate, weather systems, landforms and ecosystems. It focuses on understanding how changes in climate resulting from human activities such as burning fossil fuels for energy production or deforestation can affect the environment at local, regional, national and global scales. The term “climate change” is often used to refer to these effects, but it also includes other aspects of environmental degradation such as air pollution caused by industrial emissions or water contamination due to agricultural runoff. Climate research seeks to understand both natural processes (such as El Niño) that cause climatic variability over time and space as well as anthropogenic causes related to emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere which are causing Earth’s average surface temperature to increase over time – this phenomenon has become known popularly referred to as ‘global warming’. In addition, researchers have found that rapid population growth combined with resource extraction (e.g., oil drilling) are further contributing factors leading up towards an increasingly hostile planetary environment for humans & animals alike; putting pressure upon already vulnerable populations who depend heavily upon their surrounding environments for sustenance & livelihoods – thus becoming one more factor driving today’s mass migrations throughout much of Africa Asia & South America . In short: our actions are having far reaching consequences across all levels within an ever-more interconnected web where no creature lives isolated from its neighbor . It follows then , if we want our planet remain livable going forward , a concerted effort must be made at every level – from individuals through governments – so ensure sustainable practices take precedence in decisions regarding energy use , land management etc…all while recognizing there will always be some degree risk associated with any solutions proposed ; ultimately requiring us accept responsibility those implications before moving ahead too quickly without proper consideration given possible long-term impacts they might bring about As members of society living here right now , each person needs make sure their personal choices reflect betterment rather than detriment overall system : when shopping keep waste minimal …when voting support candidates willing stand up against corporate interests exploiting public resources ..and above all else remember current generations not only ones affected future outcomes !
