Chile by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 68 Chile, officially the Republic of Chile (Spanish: República de Chile), is a country in western South America. It occupies a narrow strip of land between the Andes mountains to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Spanning over 4300 km (2685 mi) north-south along its coast, it borders Peru in north, Bolivia on northeast and Argentina in east. Its capital Santiago lies at an altitude of 520 m (1706 ft). Chile has been inhabited by humans since approximately 12000 BCE when hunter gatherers settled down there during Norte Chico civilization era – one of earliest civilizations known so far in Americas region. After that Mapuche people spread across much part of central and southern Chile as well as parts neighboring countries by 16th century CE until Chilean War Of Independence ended with their defeat against Spanish Empire forces led by Bernardo O’Higgins Riquelme & José de San Martín who declared independence from Spain on September 18th 1810 after 10 long years war demanding freedom for native peoples living under colonial rule . Since then, successive governments have implemented economic reforms aimed at modernizing economy while maintaining strong democracy which eventually turned into one most prosperous countries Latin American continent today due both sustained high rates growth GDP per capita levels made possible through various fiscal policies such lowering taxes , diversifying export markets away primarily agricultural products focus towards more tech based ones like copper mining manufacturing etc..
