Chicago by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 84 Chicago is the most populous city in both the state of Illinois and the Midwestern United States. It is located on Lake Michigan, at a point where three major rivers converge—the Chicago, Calumet and Des Plaines Rivers. Dating back to 1673 when Jean Baptiste Point DuSable built his cabin near what would become downtown Chicago, this vibrant city has developed into an influential international hub for business, culture, commerce and finance. Nicknamed “The Windy City” due to its windswept climate as well as its reputation for political bluster during elections or debates held there; it was founded by French explorers in 1803 on land given by Native Americans who had been living there since 1000BCE. The population continued to grow throughout 19th century with large numbers of European immigrants coming from Ireland, Germany and Sweden creating distinct neighborhoods that have remained today like Pilsen (Mexican), Little Italy (Italian) and Greektown (Greek). Today’s modern skyline consists of iconic buildings such as Willis Tower – one of America’s tallest structures – along with numerous other skyscrapers including John Hancock Center which offers spectacular views over the lakefront area below. Home to two professional baseball teams: Cubs & White Sox; visitors can also enjoy world-class museums such as Field Museum of Natural History featuring dinosaurs skeletons amongst many natural history exhibits while Art Institute houses famous works from Monet & Picasso among others things making it one must see place during visit here..
