Celebrity is a term used to describe an individual who has achieved widespread public fame and recognition. The word ‘celebrity’ originates from the Latin term celebris, which means famous or renowned. A celebrity may be of any profession; actors, musicians, athletes and politicians are all examples of people that have gained significant amounts of public attention.

The concept of being a celebrity can often refer to having notoriety in the media industry as well as within their own field. This could include receiving awards for outstanding achievement such as Oscars or Grammys, appearing on television shows and movies, having best-selling songs or albums on music charts etc. However there are also those celebrities who become popular simply by becoming known through social media platforms like YouTube or Instagram – they tend to rely less upon traditional avenues for popularity but instead focus more heavily upon creating content online that will gain them followership quickly due to its virality among other users sharing it across multiple networks.

It is argued that certain individuals become so prominent in our culture because we live in a society where image matters much more than actual talent; this would explain why some reality TV stars achieve higher levels of fame even though they lack real skill compared with someone who puts much effort into honing their craft over many years yet still remains relatively unknown outside niche circles (i.e., independent artists). It could also be said that these celebrities act as role models whom others aspire towards achieving themselves – whether this involves emulating their style choices, career paths taken etc – especially when seen amongst younger generations growing up looking at images propagated via modern mediums such internet sites/apps like Facebook Twitter & Snapchat etc…

Regardless how one achieves stardom however ultimately what matters most here is not just about gaining approval from peers but rather knowing oneself enough mentally & emotionally first before allowing external influences shape your identity too drastically otherwise risk losing sight completely off original goals set initially prior entering spotlight’s glare!
