Boston by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 69 Boston is the capital and most populous city of Massachusetts, in the United States. It covers 48 square miles (124 km2) with an estimated population of 685,094 in 2019, making it also the 21st largest city in the country. Boston is one of America’s oldest cities founded on September 17th 1630 by Puritan settlers from England who had come to escape religious persecution there. The colonial town grew rapidly over time into a major port and center for trade throughout New England during its early history as well as becoming a hub for education, culture and politics later on. The American Revolution was rooted within this region due to several significant events that occurred here such as Paul Revere’s midnight ride which warned citizens about British troop movements before their attack at Lexington & Concord in April 1775. After winning independence from Britain, Boston became one of America’s first great industrial cities thanks largely to investments made by wealthy merchants like John Hancock whose signature graces every US dollar bill today! Today Boston stands out among other American cities both architecturally and culturally; many old buildings still remain standing along cobblestone streets while plenty more have been built since then giving off a vibrant atmosphere full of life day or night including world-renowned universities Harvard University & MIT located nearby Cambridge across Charles River just northward from downtown area known famously “Beantown”. With numerous parks scattered around inner neighborhoods visitors can explore historical landmarks sites like Freedom Trail where they will learn why exactly so much happened right here starting centuries ago right up until present times when all sorts diverse people call this place home now too!
