The Boise State Broncos are a college football team that represents Boise State University located in the capital city of Idaho, Boise. The school’s football program is one of only two non-Power 5 programs to be ranked among the top 25 teams in both the AP and Coaches Polls since 2010. The other being UCF Knights.

History

Boise State first fielded an intercollegiate football team during 1933 when they were known as BJC Broncs (Borah Junior College). They joined Division I-AA five years later, becoming independent members before joining Big Sky Conference in 1996. During 2001 season under Dirk Koetter, head coach at time; Broncos won their 1st conference championship after going undefeated 13–0 and making it to NCAA Division I National Championship Game only to lose by a field goal against Marshall Thundering Herd who was led by Byron Leftwich at QB position with score 34–30 for final result . Despite loss on national title game that year, Broncos still finished with #12 ranking from USA Today/ESPN poll which marked highest ever finish for any non BCS bowl eligible school at time . During 2006 season Chris Petersen took over coaching duties from Dan Hawkins and shortly after taking over he lead them through another successful run culminating with Fiesta Bowl victory against Oklahoma Sooners 43–42 where Ian Johnson famously proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend Chrissy Popadics right after scoring winning touchdown late 4th quarter giving legendary status within fan base forever more . After this success however , Petersen left next following offseason , leaving behind him legacy most fans will never forget but also setting up new challenge ahead ; how do you replace iconic figure like CP?
