It is bordered by Indonesia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea to its north; Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia to its northeast; Fiji and Tonga to its east; French Polynesia and New Zealand to its southeast; Malaysia and Singapore to its south-west; Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos (across the South China Sea) as well as India & Sri Lanka (as part of Indian Ocean region) further away from it’s west coast. Australia has a population of more than 25 million people with majority living along coastal areas due increased economic opportunities. The capital city of Australia is Canberra which also serves as main political centre for both federal government administration offices as well state legislative buildings.
