Anna Wintour by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 66 Anna Wintour (born 3 November 1949) is an English-American editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, a position she has held since 1988. She was also the artistic director for Condé Nast, and the global content advisor for its parent company, Advance Publications. Since 2013, Wintour’s influence over American and international fashion has earned her the title “The Pope” from The New York Times Magazine. As one of the most powerful figures in contemporary media culture and fashion journalism, she is widely acknowledged as a major driving force behind increased press attention to high style trendsetting celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker or Victoria Beckham. Wintour began her career at Harper’s Bazaar magazine under legendary editor Diana Vreeland before moving to New York City in 1981 to work at Women’s Wear Daily (WWD). In 1983 she became creative director at British Vogue until 1986 when she took up a role with American Vogue that eventually led to her becoming Editor in Chief two years later – making history by being appointed as only their second female EIC ever! Under Anna’s leadership there were many changes implemented which included increasing circulation numbers drastically; launching numerous successful spinoff magazines including TeenVogue & Men’sVogue; introducing new departments like ‘Stylemakers’ & ‘Fashion Fund’; collaborating with prominent designers such Marc Jacobs or Tom Ford on special projects; expanding into digital platforms through social media networks like Instagram where @voguemagazine now boasts over 12 million followers while remaining true to its core values: celebrating beauty and promoting diversity throughout all aspects of its publication(s). In addition to running one of America’s largest publications – Anna has found time outside of work too host multiple annual fundraising events benefiting charities related art/fashion education initiatives across America & Europe alike (e.g., Costume Institute Gala); serve as an ambassador for Save The Children UK charity organization whose mission involves providing aid relief efforts globally alongside other notable public figures such Prince William Duke Of Cambridge among others… Notable achievements aside though it should be noted that Ms Wintour continues actively contributing towards advancing both traditional print publishing industry standards well beyond just what we have seen from within last decade alone!
