Alabama by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 84 Alabama is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. It is bordered by Tennessee to the north, Georgia to the east, and Mississippi to the west. Alabama’s capital city is Montgomery, and its largest city is Birmingham. The population of Alabama was estimated at 4,903,185 as of 2020. The history of human settlement in what would become modern-day Alabama dates back thousands of years before European contact. Native American tribes such as Creek and Cherokee inhabited this area for centuries prior to European exploration beginning in 1540 with Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto’s expeditions into present day South Carolina and Georgia. After several failed attempts at establishing settlements due to hostile indigenous populations or disease outbreaks among their own settlers; France first began colonizing parts of Mobile Bay near modern-day Mobile City in 1702 which set off an intense struggle between Britain & Spain for control over much inland territory within modern-day boundaries until it eventually became part West Florida Territory under British rule after Treaty Of Paris (1783). West Florida subsequently passed from British hands following Andrew Jackson’s victory against forces loyalist troops during Battle Of New Orleans (1815) prompting US Congress action that resulted creation State Of Alabama on December 14th 1819 .
