Texas man, who vanished in 2015 as a teenager, found alive according to family and authorities

A man from Texas, who disappeared as a teenager in 2015 while out walking his dogs in Houston, has been discovered alive, stated his family and police on Monday.

Rudolph “Rudy” Farias IV was found around 10 p.m. Thursday by police and firefighters, following a report of an unresponsive person in front of a church in southeast Houston, according to police spokesman John Cannon.

Cannon stated it wasn’t immediately clear where Farias had spent the past eight years. Police investigators hadn’t yet had a chance to talk to Farias, 25, who was still admitted in the hospital.

Janie Santana, Farias’ mother, explained in a statement, “What we are certain of is that a kind passerby found him unresponsive at the time of his recovery and immediately alerted the police and 911. My son Rudy is currently receiving necessary care to cope with his ordeal, but he remains nonverbal and unable to communicate with us.”

Houston police stated in a Monday afternoon tweet that they aim to engage in a discussion with Farias and his family on Wednesday.

The Texas Center for the Missing, acting as the public communication representative for Farias’ family, was the first to report on Saturday via a tweet that Farias had been located.

In a statement on Monday, the center expressed, “This is the moment all families yearn for and dream about when a loved one disappears – REUNION. We’re grateful that Rudy has been found and is receiving the care he requires.”

Farias, who was 17 years old at the time, was reported missing on March 6, 2015, after walking his two dogs near his family’s residence in northeast Houston. His dogs were found later on.

Houston police, in collaboration with Texas Equusearch, a volunteer search and recovery team, conducted a search for Farias but found no trace of him.

Texas Equusearch disclosed when Farias first disappeared that he was suffering from depression and anxiety, and he might have been disoriented as he wasn’t on his medication. Farias also had asthma and walked with a minor limp due to a right leg injury.

His mother mentioned in 2015 that Farias was generally cautious around unfamiliar people, according to Texas Equusearch.

Cannon stated that Farias’ family informed police investigators of a sighting in September 2018, where Farias was living behind a relative’s house.

Police officers followed up on this 2018 sighting and visited the relative’s house, but they could not find or locate him, stated Cannon.

As the police were unable to locate Farias following the 2018 sighting, the case continued to be handled as a missing person investigation, added Cannon.

Family members, including Santana, were not available for comments on Monday.

In her statement, Santana requested, “We seek privacy during this challenging time but will provide more information as Rudy’s recovery progresses.”
