Tragic Shooting Claims Three Lives, Injures Eight Following Texas Festival

Tragedy struck in Texas as gunfire erupted in a crowd of hundreds, killing three people and injuring eight others in the aftermath of a neighborhood festival, according to local authorities.

The incident occurred late Monday night around 11:47 p.m., in the predominantly African-American Como neighborhood of Fort Worth, which was bustling with post-festival activity. The chaos unfolded just hours after the culmination of the ComoFest Independence Day celebration, leading to panic-stricken attendees fleeing on foot and by vehicles amidst the gunfire.

Expressing her heartbreak over the incident, Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker took to Twitter, stating, “I’m devastated by this tragic news. My heart breaks for the victims, their loved ones, and the entire Como community that tirelessly works to cultivate positivity and unity in their community and our city.”

Upon arrival at the scene, police found multiple victims in a nearby parking lot, with one individual declared dead on site. Other casualties were rushed to hospitals via ambulances or private conveyances. Among the 11 victims, one is reported to be a minor, authorities confirmed.

As of Tuesday morning, no arrests had been made and the exact number of shooters remained uncertain.

The shooting site was several blocks away from the park where the ComoFest was hosted. This area has previously witnessed violence when, after the inaugural ComoFest in 2021, eight people were shot and wounded near a local car wash.

The Como neighborhood has a long-standing tradition of hosting an annual Fourth of July parade for over seven decades. Despite the recent tragedy, residents gathered on Tuesday morning for the parade, undeterred by the previous night’s horrifying incident.

The incident in Texas is part of a broader pattern of gun violence witnessed across the country. In Philadelphia, a heavily-armed individual in a bulletproof vest opened fire on Monday, resulting in five fatalities and two boys wounded before the suspect surrendered. On Sunday, in Baltimore, a holiday block party was disrupted by gunfire, leaving two dead and 28 wounded.
