The Mary River in Gympie, a town in Queensland, became the site of a tragic discovery with the recovery of two women’s bodies, aged 40 and 46. They were part of a group of three women who were carried away by floodwaters through a stormwater drain on Tuesday. One woman, aged 46, miraculously survived the ordeal.

Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll attributed these tragic events to the harsh weather conditions, describing them as “extraordinarily difficult.” Carroll expressed deep sorrow over these losses, highlighting the tragic nature of the past 24 hours in a statement to the press.

The severe weather has been wreaking havoc in parts of southeast Australia, including Queensland and Victoria, since Monday.

In regional Victoria, a woman’s body was discovered late Tuesday at a campsite in Buchan following the subsiding of flash floods. Earlier that day, a 44-year-old man in Caringal, located in eastern Victoria, was fatally injured by a falling tree branch on his rural property.
