Elon Musk has announced that his anticipated in-person confrontation with Mark Zuckerberg is scheduled to be broadcasted on his social media platform X, which was formerly known as Twitter.

Late in June, these two tech giants seemingly consented to a “cage match,” with Zuckerberg, who has trained in mixed martial arts, already having taken part in his first jiu jitsu tournament earlier this year. “X will host the live stream of the Zuck vs. Musk fight,” Musk declared on Sunday on the platform, pledging that “All earnings from the event will be donated to veterans’ charities.”

Musk revealed earlier on Sunday that his preparations for the fight included weightlifting, explaining, “I’m so busy I have to bring the weights to work,” Musk said.

The playful challenge began when Musk, the owner of X, made a sarcastic comment about Meta’s upcoming release of a new rival to Twitter named Threads, criticizing a future dominated by Zuckerberg’s control. This prompted a Twitter user to humorously caution Musk about Zuckerberg’s jiu jitsu skills, to which Musk responded, “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol.”

Officials from X, Meta, and Ultimate Fighting Championship, which might host the fight at its venue, have not yet replied to emails seeking clarification on the matter.

Musk’s intent to live-stream the event on X aligns with his vision of transforming the platform into a “digital town square.” However, this ambition was recently challenged when his widely-promoted Twitter Spaces event in May, featuring Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announcing his presidential run, was plagued by technical issues and a significant delay.

Musk attributed the problems to server overload due to high demand, but even at peak times, the number of listeners reached only around 420,000, a number far from the millions usually drawn by televised presidential declarations.
