Israel and the US are at odds over conflicting visions for postwar Gaza

In contrast, the U.S. advocates for a return of the Palestinian Authority, the resumption of peace talks, and a two-state solution, opposing reoccupation or redrawing Gaza’s borders.

The U.S. provides strong support to Israel’s right to defend itself, offering weapons and military assistance. However, it has expressed concerns about humanitarian conditions and civilian casualties in Gaza, urging Israel to protect Gaza’s civilians.

These conflicting visions set the stage for difficult discussions between Israel and the U.S. The disagreements may impact the postwar scenario in Gaza and strain diplomatic relations between the two allies.

The Palestinian Authority, which governs semi-autonomous areas of the occupied West Bank, is advocated by the U.S. to play a role in postwar Gaza. However, Israel opposes its return, citing trust issues with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
