Wide receiver DJ Moore marked a personal milestone with his inaugural rushing touchdown and also caught a touchdown pass. Contributing significantly to the defense, Safety Jaquan Brisker racked up 17 tackles, aiding the Bears (5-8) in achieving consecutive wins for the first time since 2021 and marking their third win in the last four games.

The Bears had previously surrendered a 17-point lead in the final moments of their last matchup against Detroit, resulting in a 31-26 defeat. This time, however, Chicago rallied to score 15 points in roughly seven minutes, breaking a 13-13 tie late in the third quarter, showcasing their progress.

DETROIT’S CHALLENGES

The Lions’ Jared Goff struggled, throwing two interceptions and enduring four sacks. Detroit (9-4), previously seen as a potential Super Bowl contender, has now lost two of its last three games. Coach Dan Campbell emphasized the team’s resilient nature but acknowledged the need for precision to avoid costly errors.

Fields completed 19 of 33 passes, throwing for 223 yards and rushing for an additional 58 yards. This performance took his career rushing total to 2,021 yards, joining Bobby Douglass as one of the only Bears quarterbacks to surpass 2,000 rushing yards.

GAINING THE UPPER HAND

The Bears secured a 19-13 lead late in the third quarter. Capitalizing on a Lions offside penalty, Fields connected with Moore for a 38-yard touchdown. Following a blocked extra point attempt, Chicago regained possession after recovering a fumbled snap, leading to Fields scoring from the 11-yard line, extending their lead to 25-13.

Chicago’s defense then made a crucial stop, leading to a Cairo Santos field goal that solidified the Bears’ control of the game.

Defensive end Montez Sweat described the team’s defensive effort as a poetic culmination of strain and strategy. Moore’s six receptions for 68 yards and a 16-yard rushing touchdown on the opening drive contributed significantly to the Bears’ offense.

Tight end Cole Kmet had five receptions for 66 yards, while defensive efforts included Johnson’s fourth interception of the season and Sweat’s career-high 10th sack. This victory marked the Bears’ first post-bye week win since 2013 and their second consecutive win against a division rival following a 12-game losing streak.

Goff completed 20 of 35 passes for 161 yards, while Jahmyr Gibbs contributed 66 rushing yards and a touchdown. Former Bear David Montgomery, now with the Lions, rushed for 66 yards against his old team.

Reflecting on the game’s outcome, Lions’ Aidan Hutchinson, who recorded one of three sacks for Detroit, expressed disappointment, emphasizing the need to close out games more effectively.
