Congressional Republicans Poised to Challenge FBI Director on Trump, Hunter Biden Issues

Wray’s testimony will also focus on efforts to renew a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) program that grants agencies such as the FBI wide-ranging authority to monitor and scrutinize communications of foreigners located outside the U.S.

However, bipartisan frustrations with the program are high, following revelations of system abuse by federal officials.

Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are preparing a rebuttal to the Republicans’ allegations against the FBI. They argue it’s the GOP lawmakers who are misusing congressional oversight power to pander to their base and party leader.

Rep. Jerry Nadler, the leading Democrat on the committee, is set to declare in his opening statement that the hearing is essentially a political performance by the Republicans, designed to shield Trump and boost his chances for a political comeback.
