Zambia, officially the Republic of Zambia, is a landlocked country in East-Central Africa bordered by Angola to the west and Tanzania to the north. The capital city is Lusaka, located in the south central part of Zambia. Its population as estimated at 2016 was 17 million people with about 77 ethnic groups living within its borders.

History
The area now known as Zambia has been inhabited since Paleolithic times when hunter gatherers roamed across it over 8000 years ago. Later on Iron Age farmers came from nearby Central African Kingdoms such as Bunyoro Kitara and Maravi Empire who introduced iron smelting technology into what would become modern day Eastern Province of today’s nation state called Zambia. By 1893 British colonizers had established Northern Rhodesian protectorate which by 1911 became a colony named after Cecil John Rhodes’s British South Africa Company (BSAC). In 1953 BSAC granted self rule under federal structure followed later by full independence on 24th October 1964 under Kenneth Kaunda’s United National Independence Party (UNIP) leadership leading to formation of one party socialist state till 1991 when current multi-party democracy was adopted following introduction of new constitution through referendum .
