Zach Edey

Zach Edey (born June 10, 2002) is an American basketball player who plays for Purdue University. He attended DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland where he was a 4-star recruit and top 50 ranked prospect by ESPN and 247Sports.

High school career

During his high school career at DeMatha Catholic from 2017 to 2021, Edey helped the team win three Washington Catholic Athletic Conference titles (2017–19). In 2019 he averaged 15 points per game as well as 8 rebounds en route to becoming WCAC Player of the Year that season. Following his senior year in 2020-21, Edey became just one of two players ever named first team All-WCAC four times during their careers while also claiming MVP honors at both the National Hoopfest and Bishop Walsh Invitational tournaments. His strong play earned him offers from numerous Division I programs including Georgetown University, Virginia Commonwealth University and Penn State before ultimately committing to Purdue on October 2nd 2020.

College career

After joining Matt Painter’s Boilermakers program ahead of the 2021–22 season, Zach made an immediate impact with several double doubles throughout non conference play averaging 10 points & 6 rebounds over 18 games prior to Big Ten action starting. On December 28th against Rutgers he scored what would be a then career high 22 points off 9/15 shooting which included making all five attempts from beyond the arc earning himself Big Ten Freshman Of The Week recognition for that week’s performance . He continued this strong level of production into January notably registering 17 point performances versus Iowa & Illinois along with 16 more against Northwestern helping No 12 ranked Purdue secure victories despite missing leading scorer Trevion Williams due to injury . As February rolled around ,Edy began showing flashes of dominance when given extended minutes such as dropping 20 pts & grabbing 13 boards vs Nebraska or tallying 18pts 7rebs 5asts in 37minutess versus Minnesota culminating with being named co freshman player oft eh week in back2back weeks crossing over into March capped off by setting a new personal best 23pts 11rebs outburst @ Michigan state although it wasn’t enought o overcome Tom Izzo’s Spartans squad.. At present time Zach has been able exceed even most optimistic expectations set forth upon entry entering college taking full advantage whenever called upon while displaying poise far advanced than expected providing hope among fans alike moving forward towards late march madness Tournament hopes down line once healthy again
