Wyoming state government by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 48 Wyoming state government is the governmental structure of the U.S. state of Wyoming as established by the Constitution of Wyoming. The executive branch consists of an elected governor, lieutenant governor and secretary of state, who serve four-year terms; a five-member board appointed by the governor to oversee public lands in Wyoming; six statewide elected constitutional officers responsible for individual departments within its executive branch (treasurer, auditor, superintendent of public instruction, attorney general and two commissioners on land); and several dozen other agencies headed by directors appointed directly or indirectly by either boards comprised mostly or entirely of political appointees or governors themselves. The legislative branch is bicameral with a Senate composed up 30 members serving 4 year terms while House has 60 members also serving 4 year term both body are presided over by their own respective Speaker/President typically chosen from majority party caucus at start session each odd number year selection must be reconfirmed every even numbered years when new legislature convene after election cycle . Both chambers meet yearly in Cheyenne January through March annually , but can call special sessions into any time needed such as budgeting process that occur most biennially during off months . The judicial system consist Supreme Court made up 5 justices 1 Chief Justice all whom serve 8 -year staggered terms followed lower courts circuit court district court municipal city county magistrates judges . All Judicial officials retired age 70 though may ask permission continue service until 72 if agreed upon Governor Legislature . Other entities include State Bar Association which serves attorneys licensing regulating profession Licensing Associated Professional Boards regulates professions health care education etc Board Equalization Tax appeals various boards commissions councils committees tasked researching certain topics providing recommendations related matters including environmental wildlife agricultural policy cultural historical preservation educational employment military affairs social services tourism development veteran affairs water resources natural gas oil minerals forestry grazing mining etc Lastly there is independent Ethics Commission charged ensuring adherence code conduct among legislators enforcing financial disclosure requirements ensuring compliance statutes regulations pertaining campaign finance elections lobbying conflict interest applicable officeholders candidates Public Service Commissioners oversees utilities telecommunications providers assesses rates charges approves mergers transfers property rights investigate consumer complaints
