Women's rights

Women’s rights is a term used to describe the basic human and legal rights that are due to women, usually as part of wider discourse on human rights. Women’s right activists have fought for centuries to establish these basic freedoms and entitlements which were often withheld from them based solely upon their gender.

History
The earliest known records of an organized movement advocating for women’s rights was in 1790 by Mary Wollstonecraft who wrote A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792). Her work challenged some traditional views about womanhood and argued that education should be seen as a fundamental right of all citizens regardless or sex. Other early advocates include Sarah Grimké, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B Anthony who promoted voting reform, property ownership equality between men & women, access to higher education among other issues. This struggle has continued through modern times with notable figures such as Margaret Sanger , Simone de Beauvoir , Gloria Steinem , Malala Yousafzai etc., speaking up against the discrimination faced by many women worldwide .

In 1945 The United Nations Charter established equal recognition before law for men & women along with guaranteeing “fundamental freedoms without discrimination.” In 1948 Universal Declaration Of Human Rights was adopted unanimously which proclaimed “All human beings are born free & equal in dignity &rights”. This declaration laid down foundation stones emphasizing gender equality throughout various countries around world despite regional differences in culture customs traditions etc.. Despite this there still exist major disparities when it comes to implementation at grass root level especially regarding protection from violence abuse exploitation economic opportunities maternity leaves child marriage forced marriages dowry system female genital mutilation honor killings access health care reproductive health services employment security political representation within government amongst others.
