Washington by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 107 Washington is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It borders Idaho to the east, Oregon to the south and Canada’s province of British Columbia to the north. The state capital is Olympia, while its largest city by population is Seattle. Washington was named after George Washington, first President of the United States and Founding Father. The area that would become Washington was part of multiple Spanish possessions before becoming part of Great Britain’s Vancouver Island colony in 1791 with American settlers arriving two years later after negotiations for joint control ended positively between both countries. In 1846 it became an organized territory within U.S jurisdiction and finally achieved statehood on November 11th 1889 as part 42nd US State joining Union during presidential term Benjamin Harrison who served from 1889 till 1893 . Nowadays , Washington has an estimated population over 7 million people distributed across 39 counties making it 13th most populated states in country . Its economy relies mainly on services such as technology sector including Microsoft based at Redmond town located near Seattle which also serves home port for several ships belonging US Navy being Puget Sound one main navy bases site Additionally industry sectors like aerospace manufacturing are crucial parts contributing GDP growth alongside with agricultural products coming mostly Yakima Valley region where apples top list among other fruits like cherries or apricots grown there . Tourist attractions widespread all around offering variety activities ranging from outdoor sports mountaineering skiing snowboarding fishing kayaking etcetera up visiting places historical landmarks natural parks monuments churches museums theaters gardens wineries breweries restaurants art galleries music venues shopping centers along many others facilities available visitors plus large conventions celebrations held regular basis throughout cities towns areas dotting this lovely northwest land known affectionately “Evergreen State” nickname given due lush green forests surrounding almost everywhere.. Washington has had great impact USA culture history playing key role number important events having taken place here example Lewis Clark expedition beginning early 1800s when explorers started mapping lands traveling through rivers reaching pacific ocean addition opening new trade routes starting what now call Pacific Northwest Trail leading down California Montana Wyoming passing nearby Yellowstone National Park ultimately ending Santa Fe New Mexico giving name entire route .. In modern times still keeping strong influence nation politics boasting some influential politicians even though considered swing voting district depending election results leaning either towards Democrats Republicans quite often going undecided come time polls close whether local national elections concerned ….
