Vietnam government by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 51 The Government of Vietnam, also known as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV), is a unitary Marxist-Leninist one-party socialist republic which exercises jurisdiction over most of mainland Southeast Asia. The nation consists of 58 provinces and five centrally controlled municipalities. Its capital city is Hanoi and its official language is Vietnamese. History The government has been in existence since the 1945 August Revolution led by Ho Chi Minh proclaimed independence from French Indochina during World War II and formed a provisional revolutionary government on 2 September 1945 to begin negotiations with France for international recognition. After the 1954 Geneva Conference, it was officially recognized as an independent state within French Union until 1976 when it became fully autonomous following reunification after two decades divided into North and South Vietnam at end of Second Indochina War in 1975 with fall Saigon to Communist forces under Ho Chi Minh’s leadership hence forming unified Socialist Republic Of Vietnam (SRV). Structure SRV currently operates under constitution adopted 19 December 2013 outlining fundamentals structure; executive branch composed President , Prime Minister , National Assembly , Judiciary & Central Military Commission . Head State elected 5 year term while head Government appointed by president upon approval legislature . Legislative power vested National Assembly directly elected people through multi party system 4 years general elections choose 500 members body who oversee passing laws policies both domestic foreign affairs .
