Utah is a state in the western United States. It became the 45th state admitted to the Union on January 4, 1896. Utah is bordered by Colorado to the east, Wyoming to the northeast, Idaho to the north, Arizona to the south and Nevada tothe west. The capital of Utah is Salt Lake City and its largest city is West Valley City with an estimated population of over 180 thousand people as of 2020.

The total area covered by Utah consists of 84000 square miles making it one of he most geographically diverse states in America with stretches from both desert terrain along its southern border up into mountainous regions near its northern borders with Idaho and Wyoming including popular ski areas like Park City mountain resort which hosted many events during 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City.

Historically speaking Native American tribes such as Ute Indians inhabited what would become modern day utah for thousands years before first European settlers arrived in late 18th century leading up eventual establishment Mormon settlements throughout region later 19th century eventually becoming part union after ratification 1896 Statehood Act following decades turmoil between early LDS pioneers Mormons native americans federal government which led President Abraham Lincoln issue 1862 Proclamation granting them right form territorial government within boundaries outlined act that same year ultimately culminating full fledged status forty fifth u s state four years later
