The Utah State Aggies men’s basketball team represents Utah State University (USU) in Logan, Utah. USU competes in the Mountain West Conference of NCAA Division I and is currently coached by Craig Smith. The school has had a long history with college basketball, having been part of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference from 1922 to 1962 and then as an independent until joining their current conference for the 1999–2000 season. Since that time they have seen modest success within their conference including four regular-season titles: 2001–02, 2004–05, 2006–07 and 2007–08; three tournament championships: 2002, 2005 & 2008; one NIT bid in 2003; two NCAA Tournaments bids in 2009 & 2011; and one College Basketball Invitational championship title in 2013.

In addition to these accomplishments individual players have also made significant contributions to both university history as well as national recognition over the years such as Naismith Hall of Fame inductee Phil Johnson who played at USU during his senior year (1962-63). Other notable alumni include NBA All-Star Shawn Marion who was drafted 9th overall into the league after spending just two seasons with USU before turning pro following his junior year (1996-97). More recently former Aggie guard/forward Sam Merrill earned MWC Player of Year honors twice while leading them back to consecutive postseasons berths appearing firstly on 2019 National Invitation Tournament followed by 2020 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship appearances where he finished second all time most points scored for single game record performance against Florida Gators prior being selected 30th overall pick at 2020 NBA Draft.

Most recently under Coach Craig Smith’s leadership program won its fourth straight Mountain West regular season title making it five total since its inception 20 years ago into MWConference thus reaching its highest ranking ever No 16 on AP Poll ending up 2021 campaign with 23 wins going 13 – 5 finishing 2nd spot behind San Diego Stat Aztecs . With bright future ahead Aggies will once again look forward be amongst nation’s best programs competing deep run postseason tournaments showcasing talent across country
