Tyler Kolek by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 53 Tyler Kolek (born December 15, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is currently a free agent. He was drafted by the Miami Marlins with the second overall pick in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft out of Shepherd High School in Texas. Early life and amateur career Kolek was born to parents Bart and Leslie Kolek on December 15, 1995, in Fort Bend County near Houston, Texas. During his high school years at Shepherd High School he played both football and baseball for them where he set records as a quarterback while also being named Gatorade Player of The Year for two consecutive seasons for baseball in 2012-13. In 2013 during his senior year season he struck out 141 batters over 77 innings pitched with an ERA of 0.17 recording 10 wins against no losses that included 7 shutouts earning him All State honors from numerous sources such as MaxPreps & Rawlings Perfect Game USA First Team All American selection among others which eventually led him to be selected 2nd Overall by the Miami Marlins organization during their first round picks after Brady Aiken had been picked 1st Overall by Houston Astros Organization earlier that day.. Professional career – Minor league stats (2014–2019) After signing with Florida/Miami franchise Tyler made his debut on June 22th , playing rookie ball with Gulf Coast League affiliate Marlins finishing off this season playing 8 games giving up 6 earned runs off 16 hits striking out 13 batters over 12 innings posting an 3-2 record along side 2 saves before getting promoted to Class –A Greensboro Grasshoppers where finished strong going 5-1 making 11 appearances pitching 42 inning allowing 25 hits 40 strikeouts & 21 walks all together ending season having 0 home runs allowed . Following 2015 Season Tyler started 2016 again back at Greensboro Grasshoppers but due to injuries suffered throughout ended up only appearing 4 times throwing 14 innings racking 20 strikeouts notching win each outing before being sent down once more time To Rookie Ball Jupiter Hammerheads now Low Class –A team . 2017 saw Kolek go through full spring training camp process were even reached 94 mph velocity levels however arm issues persisted so immediately placed into extended spring training program followed soon after assignment low class A Clinton LumberKings though appeared just one game tossing scoreless frame prior undergoing Tommy John surgery thus missing entire 2018 campaign plus 2019 as well finally opting out contract late August same year MLB Career (2020-) On April 24th 2020 it had been reported that tyler kOleK Was signed minor league deal With Los angeles dodgers organization yet just few days later opts Out Contract / Released By Dodgers Late May 2020 Due Elbow Injury Suffered Early March Same Year Leaving Him Unsigned Since That Time References:
