Tunisia by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 84 Tunisia (Arabic: تونس Tūnis) is a country located in North Africa, on the Mediterranean Sea coast. It borders Algeria to the west and Libya to the south east. Tunisia has an estimated population of 11 million people as of 2019 and its capital city is Tunis which has an urban area population of around 2 million inhabitants. The official language used throughout Tunisia is Arabic while French can also be widely found in many areas due to its colonial past with France until 1956 when it gained independence from them at that time. The government type adopted by Tunisia since then has been democratic republic, comprising two legislative chambers; Chamber of Deputies (Majlis Al-Nuwaab) and Chamber of Advisors (Majlis Al-Shura). At present, President Kaïs Saīed holds office after winning 2018 elections under Ennahda party’s platform which he represents currently as well.
