Texas A&M Aggies by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 48 The Texas A&M Aggies are the athletic teams that represent Texas A&M University. The official school colors for the teams are maroon and white, and their mascot is a collie named Reveille. The university’s sports programs compete in NCAA Division I of both the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Big 12 Conferences, with football competing in the SEC West division. Texas A&M was established as an agricultural college in 1876, which led to its current nickname “Aggies”. Its competitive athletics program began shortly thereafter; they first competed against other schools on May 14th, 1894 when they played LSU at baseball. Since then, many successful athletes have gone through Texas A&M’s sports programs including twelve Heisman Trophy winners: John David Crow (1957), Earl Campbell (1977), Johnny Manziel (2012), Ryan Tannehill (2018). Many Olympians have also hailed from here such as swimmer Dana Vollmer who won four gold medals during her Olympic career between 2004-2016.
