The Tennessee Volunteers, often referred to as the Vols or UT, are the athletic teams representing the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. The men’s sports include football, basketball, baseball, cross country and track & field. The women’s sports consist of soccer, volleyball and softball. All together there are 21 varsity athletics programs sponsored by the university.

Football is one of the most popular sports at UT and has been since its inception in 1891 when it became a charter member of both NCAA Division I-A (now FBS) conferences; firstly being part of what was known back then as Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association from 1895 until 1921 before becoming an inaugural member for Southeastern Conference which began play in 1932 with 13 founding members including Alabama Crimson Tide Football program among others . Since joining SEC , Volunteer football team has managed to win six conference championships throughout their tenure – two outright titles back-to-back years 1997–98 followed by four shared titles along with Georgia Bulldogs Football Program (2001), Florida Gators Football Program (2007), Auburn Tigers football program(1998). They have also made appearances in 47 bowl games all time , winning 20 out them despite losing last 5 consecutively till now ; they’ve captured 4 National Championship Titles through Associated Press Poll voting process within 1934 season up until 1951 campaign but none since then under College Football Playoff format..UT holds several rivalries across collegiate landscape such as annual matchup against Vanderbilt Commodores Basketball Team nicknamed ‘Battle Of Nashville’ while other major matchups on regular basis includes game versus Kentucky Wildcats Men’s Basketball Team dubbed ‘Governor’s Cup Rivalry’ plus clash between Ole Miss Rebels Men’s basketball squad called ‘Magnolia Bowl’.

In total over 30 national championships were won by different men’s sport teams affiliated with University Of Tennessee during school history like eight claimed by Golf squads alongside seven earned via Track & Field Teams whereas Women side had achieved fifteen crowns altogether led primarily due to success story brought forth by Lady Vol Softball group that won three consecutive national title runs starting 1996 Season thru 1998 Campaign while Soccer outfit ended drought run dating back all way 1975 season when they lifted trophy after beating UNC Tar Heels Womens Soccer Squad on penalty kicks inside final match played at Portland Oregon stadium .

Besides college level competition , many athletes associated with program went onto become professional stars too whether playing respective sport domestically or internationally making name for themselves like current NFL QB Peyton Manning who played college ball here prior turning pro where he remains highly regarded figure even today long after his retirement following career stints spent mainly Indianapolis Colts Franchise yet few seasons split between Denver Broncos Organization And New York Jets Organisation respectively . Another famous athlete would be Candace Parker former Glory days star player/current Los Angeles Sparks Forward whom attended same college campus before embarking upon successful journey filled accolades including two MVP Awards amongst plethora honors she collected during her decade plus stay so far within WNBA League structure competing franchises located around United States cities such Chicago Illinois based Sky Club Or Minnesota Lynx Unit operating out Minneapolis area state capital city St Paul just mention couple examples
