Tekashi69 by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 43 Tekashi69 (born Daniel Hernandez, May 8, 1996) is an American rapper and songwriter from Brooklyn, New York. He rose to fame in late 2017 after the release of his breakout single “Gummo”, which peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. His subsequent singles such as “Kooda” and “Keke” also gained traction among fans. In October 2018, Tekashi69 signed a multi-million dollar record deal with 10K Projects; however he was released from the label shortly after due to legal issues stemming from multiple arrests for crimes including racketeering charges. In December 2019 he plead guilty in Manhattan federal court and received a two year prison sentence that began January 2020. During this time, he cooperated with federal prosecutors testifying against members of Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang resulting in lengthy sentences being handed down to affiliates charged alongside him along with other high profile cases related to organized crime throughout New York City’s five boroughs . Upon his release from jail in April 2021 , Tekashi 69 announced plans for new music releases . He has appeared on several singles since then , notably appearing on Nicki Minaj’s song “Trollz” which debuted at No 1 on both Billboards Top 100 Chart and Streaming Songs Chart simultaneously making it her first solo hit ever topping those charts . The success of this track prompted many artists such as Cardi B , Lil Wayne , Future & Swae Lee amongst others looking collaborate despite divided opinions over his controversial career choices .
