Tanzania by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 59 Tanzania, officially the United Republic of Tanzania (Swahili: Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania), is a country in Eastern Africa bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north; Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west; Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique to the south; and by Indian Ocean to its east. The capital is Dodoma where parliamentarians have been meeting since 1996. However Dar es Salaam remains as economic centre for most business activities with population reaching over 5 million people making it one of largest cities on East African region. Other major cities include Mwanza Arusha , Tanga , Morogoro Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar . With an estimated population of 59 million people according 2020 census report made available by National Bureau Statistics (NBS) of Tanzania shows that majority groups are Bantu speaking ethnic group at 98% while other minorities such as Nilotic-speaking Masai tribes make up 2%. Tanzanian culture has evolved through centuries from being primarily tribal into more diverse modes including traditional music dance architecture arts literature language cuisine fashion and political system which reflect influences from all corners world especially Swahili Arabs India Portugal Germany Britain USA China Japan South Korea among others countries who played role during colonial period until date when nation declared independence 1964 under leadership Julius Nyerere first president republic till 1985 when he relinquished power Ali Hassan Mwinyi his successor went serve two terms office before handing off presidency Benjamin Mkapa 1999 after completing both five year terms once again new leader Jakaya Kikwete took helm serving until 2015 John Magufuli current president elected elections held same year served fifth consecutive term taking oath 2019 November general polls despite strong oppositions aligned against him there yet remain optimism development democracy growth citizenry key agenda government recent times witnessed various reforms economy social sectors infrastructure education healthcare tourism transport energy industry trade regulations meant improve living standards citizens attract foreign investments create jobs reduce poverty levels so far success story must continue enable reap fruits progress move forward full potentials become middle income status set 2030 national plan vision strive towards achieving highest level prosperity welfare wellbeing Tanzanians worldwide admiration respect international community friendly diplomatic relations neighboring countries across boarders earned them nickname “The Switzerland Africa”
