Its government is based on the Three Principles of the People: nationalism, democracy, and people’s livelihoods. The current president of Taiwan is Tsai Ing-wen who was elected to office in 2016. The Constitution of Taiwan outlines the structure and functions of its government which consists mainly of three branches – executive, legislative and judicial branches. Legislative powers are vested in unicameral National Assembly composed primarily by representatives from local governments throughout Taiwan’s 23 provinces plus 6 special municipalities including Taipei City & Kaohsiung City . Judicial branch comprises Constitutional Court , Supreme Administrative Court , High Courts ; Council Of Grand Justices provides constitutional interpretation .
