Sports – Asia by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 47 Sports in Asia is a broad topic that encompasses many different types of sports and games. The sport most popularly played throughout the continent is cricket, but other sports are also widely enjoyed by people all over Asia. Soccer (or football) is becoming increasingly popular throughout much of East and South-East Asia while basketball has grown to become one of the major professional leagues in China. Other traditional Asian sports include martial arts such as judo, karate, taekwondo; badminton; table tennis; volleyball; athletics (track & field); baseball/softball and golf. Cricket originated from England during the 16th century with its first recorded game taking place in 1598 on Royal Grammar School’s grounds near Guildford Surrey County Cricket Club being founded shortly after this time period. It gained popularity amongst British colonists who spread it across their colonies including India where it developed into what we know today as modern day cricket which involves two teams each playing 11 players for either an innings or a match depending on how long they wish to play for per session. In addition to India, countries such as Pakistan have adopted cricket from Britain due to its strong historical presence there with both national teams competing at international level tournaments like the World Cup regularly since 1975 when they hosted it jointly together alongside Sri Lanka & Bangladesh making them four main nations within South Asia currently involved heavily within competitive levels worldwide today – along side Afghanistan who only recently became officially recognized by ICC back 2012 thus entering T20I rankings too!
