Spain government by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 54 Spain, officially known as the Kingdom of Spain is a sovereign state located on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe. It is bordered by Portugal to the west and south, France and Andorra to the north, and Morocco to its north-eastern coast. The country covers an area of 505 thousand square kilometers (195 thousand sq mi) making it the 53rd largest country in terms of landmass size. Its population stands at around 46 million people with its capital being Madrid which also happens to be one of Europe’s most populated cities. The Spanish government is a unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy headed by King Felipe VI since 2014 after his father Juan Carlos abdicated from power due to health reasons. Like much other European governments, Spain applies several forms of democracy such as direct democracy where citizens can vote directly for or against laws proposed by their representatives; representative democracy whereby citizens elect representatives who make decisions on behalf their constituents; Constitutional Monarchy wherein legislative powers are shared between legislature & executive branches while still having Royal Family act solely ceremonial capacity;& finally Social Democracy whereby overall society seeks well being through economic policies that promote individual liberty & social justice within democratic framework In addition these core principles ,the Government has adopted certain practices aimed towards protecting civil rights so that all Spaniards may enjoy full equality regardless race/gender/religion etc.. This includes freedom speech ,freedom assembly etc . These freedoms however have been limited over past few years given rise terrorism threats both domestic international levels The national parliament consists two chambers: Senate & Congress Deputies representing different states regions throughout nation . Both houses play important role shaping legislation although ultimate decision rests upon Prime Minister cabinet members who serve four year term before needing renew mandate via general elections held every 4 years In this sense political system works similarly countries like United Kingdom Canada Netherlands ensuring stability continuity despite frequent changes leadership Spain maintains strong diplomatic ties many nations world particularly those part EU bloc including Germany Italy France Greece Croatia Bulgaria Romania amongst others . Additionally belongs NATO organization implementing unified defence policy among member states ensure security within region along external threats posed global terrorism climate change related issues As result recent efforts focus increasing cooperation African countries regards illegal immigration human trafficking matters Overall Spanish government remains complex yet effective structure providing necessary infrastructure support developing nation into prosperous powerful entity future generations
