Shinzo Abe (安倍 晋三, Abe Shinzo; born 21 September 1954) is a Japanese politician serving as Prime Minister of Japan since 2012 and again since 2020. He previously served as Chief Cabinet Secretary from 2005 to 2006 and was Leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) from 2006 to 2007 and 2012 to 2020. He resigned on 31 August 2020 due to health issues.

Abe has been described as a right-wing nationalist, conservative, hawk and hardliner regarding national security policy. In domestic policies he advocates reforms in social welfare programs such as pension reform, women’s advancement in politics through his “Womenomics” initiative, constitutional revisionism related to Article 9 which renounces war for settling international disputes involving the state or its citizens, proactive diplomacy by building strong relationships with other countries particularly those in Southeast Asia and Australia while maintaining close ties with the United States government under Donald Trump’s presidency during 2017–2021 term ,and issue public statements denying Imperial Japan’s wartime atrocities against China . As leader of LDP he also successfully pushed forward economic stimulus packages known collectively as Abenomics that were intended create an atmosphere conducive towards job creation along with bringing about mild inflationary pressures within goods markets throughout country whilst spurring long term investments into innovative industries for future growth potential .

During prime ministerial terms between 2013 – 2018 ,he achieved some successes including: introduction new laws encouraging foreign direct investment ; increase military spending amid rising tensions North Korea & Chinese Navy ships near Senkaku Islands off Okinawa Prefecture ; passing controversial state secrets law aimed at preventing unauthorized disclosure sensitive information without proper oversight & allowing increased surveillance powers police officers investigating terrorist related activities ; ratification Trans Pacific Partnership agreement though later withdrawing following election defeat 2019 general elections …etc

On May 2021 General Election however saw him securing landslide majority 331 out 465 seats Lower House Diet Parliament resulting renewed confidence economy bolstered consumer sentiment leading series positive macroeconomic data being released subsequent months stock prices rallied higher ¥27 trillion asset injections Tokyo Stock Exchange well numerous companies raising wages their employees all time high level thanks combination measures proposed part so called third arrow “Abenomics” inflicting deflationary pressure across range sectors despite allegations person favoritism corruption scandals surrounding previous administration associated political allies . His legacy thus far remains mixed one critics pointing out failure produce sustainable gains over medium- long term period whereas supporters argue current fiscal environment much better than when first took office 2011 given consistent recovery GDP figures low unemployment rates addition ever growing global presence nation lead pushing agendas promote free trade open door policies regionally internationally making it clear here stay many years come hopefully lasting impact changing face geopolitics around world forever
