Serbia by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 72 Serbia (Serbian: Србија, Srbija), officially the Republic of Serbia (Serbian: Република Србија, Republika Srbija) is a country located at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe in the southern Pannonian Plain and the central Balkans. The sovereign state borders Hungary to the north; Romania and Bulgaria to the east; North Macedonia to the southeast; Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro to its south-west; Albania and Kosovo[a]to its west. It has a population of over seven million people as well as an area of 88,361 km2 which makes it one of largest countries in southeastern Europe after Ukraine. Belgrade is its capital city while Novi Sad is its second largest city. The official language in Serbia is Serbian followed by Albanian spoken by ethnic Albanians living mainly on Kosovo region that declared independence from Serbia in 2008 but most Serbians do not recognise this declaration claiming this land belongs them historically since medieval times even though majority inhabitants are now ethnically different then they were back then when first setted here what led into many conflicts between local ethnic groups during last centuries up until today’s situation with no definitive solution yet being found out how should be resolved ongoing tensions still present there nowadays . Throughout history due two very strategic geographic location connecting East with West some powerful empires have been trying take control over territory such Roman Empire Ottoman Empire Austro Hungarian Kingdom Habsburg Monarchy Nazi Germany Soviet Union etc all those had left their mark thus creating rich cultural mix visible everywhere you go where traditional folk music food recipes customs beliefs architecture art monuments can still be seen proudly standing proud throughout whole country providing unique experience visitors from around world who come admire beauty diversity offer . From political point view current government elected democratic parliamentary republic headed by president Aleksandar Vučić whose main task handle internal affairs foreign relations economic development human rights issues environment protection military defence education health care infrastructure etc also leading member United Nations International Monetary Fund World Bank Organisation Security Cooperation European Union NATO just few mentionable organisations important role global society worldwide . Despite civil war early 1990s following breakup Yugoslavia massive destruction caused conflicts still vivid memory among locals life goes forward slowly recovering normalcy pace striving become prosperous nation peaceful coexistence neighbouring countries future generations hope lead brighter tomorrow free oppression poverty suffering injustices experienced past years…
