Robert Casey

Robert Casey (born April 13, 1932) is an American politician who served as Governor of Pennsylvania from 1987 to 1995. Prior to his election as governor, he had a long career in public service at the state and federal levels. A member of the Democratic Party, he was first elected to Congress in 1976 and represented Pennsylvania’s 17th district for six terms until 1992 when he resigned after being elected governor.

Early life and education

Casey was born on April 13, 1932 in Scranton, Pennsylvania; the son of Robert P. Casey Sr., a prominent lawyer active with labor unions who later became county treasurer for Lackawanna County; and Ellen Cavanaugh Casey. He attended St Patrick’s High School before studying political science at La Salle University where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in 1954. Following this he went on to attend law school at Catholic University of America which granted him his Juris Doctor degree three years later in 1957 following graduation magna cum laude. After graduating law school casey enlisted into military service by joining the U S Army Reserve Corps eventually rising through its ranks becoming Major before resigning all commitments upon entering civilian politics full time..

Political Career

In 1965 Casey began his political career by running successfully for District Attorney General Of Delaware County ,Pa serving two four year terms till 1973 .He ran again unsuccessfully against incumbent Republican Senator Hugh Scott but then successful won election bid representing Pennsylvanias 17th congressional district as Congressman defeating both primary challenger & republican incumbent during general elections while also winning re-election five times consecutively .In 1986 during mid term gubernatorial race ,he decided not run seek reelection or higher office leaving congress after 10yrs tenure opting instead pursue Governorship pa gaining nomination democratic party candidate beating out republicans opponents overwhelmingly During governorship: As Governor Caseys legacy includes passing balanced budget every single year creating economic stability within commonwealth signing largest tax cut ever enacted under pennsylvania constitution improvement infrastructure like roads highways bridges airports aiming make them safer more efficient improving health care coverage elderly disabled focusing efforts making sure environment preserve clean natural resources along setting up ethical standards government officials limiting their ability accept gifts or honorarium meantime increasing accountability throughout entire state bureaucracy system Post Governorship : After completion second consecutive 4 yr tenure 1990 -1995 gov robert casey retired elective politics due physical ailments settling down home town scranton Alongside wife ellen they involved philanthropic activities providing assistance those need it most including homeless children seniors etc They currently living retirement enjoying fruits hard work services nation citizens

Death : On may 30 2000 Gov Robert P Casey passed away surrounded family friends loved ones Survived widow ellen cavanaugh 6 children 11 grand kids 9 great grandchildren along countless admirers inspired lived dedicated lives selfless giving always putting others needs above own His funeral held June 3rd 2000 Saint Peter Cathedral Downtown City Wilkes Barre Pa Where friends families paid tribute late beloved leader Legacy remains present day form numerous initiatives established while still office now carried young generations people whom never even met him Nevertheless millions owe debt gratitude dedication cause betterment society left us man named Robert p casey
