Richmond is a city in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is part of the Metro Vancouver area and has an estimated population of 218,307 as of 2019. The settlement was established in 1879 by settler William McNeill and incorporated into a municipality in 1890.

Geography and climate

Richmond is located on Lulu Island at the mouth of the Fraser River, adjacent to Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Delta, Surrey and Coquitlam. It lies between 49°N latitude (the same as Toronto) and 123°W longitude (about 10 miles east-southeast from downtown Vancouver). Richmond’s coastal location gives it mild winters but also hot summers with temperatures reaching over 30 degrees Celsius during July & August months for extended periods sometimes up to two weeks or more which can be uncomfortable given its humidity levels due to its proximity near sea level .
The average annual snowfall amount is low compared to many other cities throughout Canada at less than twenty centimeters per year though rare occurrences have been known when higher amounts occur such as back-to-back years in 2008/2009 with 37 centimeter & 35 centimeter respectively; both being among highest totals recorded since 1980’s era records were kept track off according Environment Canada weather data archives. Wintertime lows rarely drop below -2 degree celsius while summer highs reach upwards above 27 degree celsius where heat waves are not uncommon either despite their short duration most times lasting no longer than three consecutive days anyway before temperature start trending downwards again slightly until next warm period begins usually within following couple weeks time frame if not sooner..

Economy

Richmond’s economy relies heavily on retail trade followed closely by manufacturing activities primarily food processing related businesses concentrated around Steveston Village area whereas industrial type operations tend spread out towards south end along Aberdeen Centre business hub including large shopping malls nearby like Lansdowne Mall too even featuring big box stores like Walmart Supercentre store etc… Additionally local university campuses further expand educational opportunities alongside these establishments helping attract potential students from abroad who often stay there temporarily working through internships after graduation then leaving soon afterwards once their visa expires typically returning home shortly thereafter never having become permanent residents themselves unless they decide otherwise that wasn’t originally intended plan prior arriving initially however quite few still manage do so eventually anyways regardless how much planning went beforehand ahead trip itself depending person course intentions could vary greatly individual basis thus making each case unique situation own respective merits.. Tourism industry remains strong well seeing influx visitors every year coming take advantage all attractions this destination offers especially those interested exploring culture region rich history involves early settlers origins past fur traders whom brought first nations together trading goods services creating foundations what would later become City today we know call “Richmond” Canada!
